A few weeks back, when the Bangor Toy and Comic-Con was happening, I came across a picture online and had to do a double-take.

Not only did it incorporate two really cool things: Ghostbuster and Stephen King's house, but I also recognized one of the faces in the photo as my former High School classmate, Molly Gray.

So, I reached out to Gray because I wanted to know exactly how she came to sport such a sweet Ghostbusters get-up and what she was doing with it.

Gray is part of a group called the Maine Ghostbusters. They were in town for the convention and happened to snap a picture in front of the Bangor landmark while on a break.

"I met my Ghostbuster, Brian Austin, in 2017 when I was working at the Children’s Museum & Theater of Maine in Portland. He was friends with Amanda of Comic Geeks Unite. They came in one First Friday during the Art Walk. He wasn’t completely suited up because he didn’t have his proton pack yet and one must be a complete Ghostbuster to bust ghosts. I told him 'I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND' in a flirty way and the rest is history," Gray said.

According to their Facebook page, the group has a special purpose, aside from celebrating all things Ghostbusters.

"The Maine Ghostbusters is a volunteer fan group of friends who have the utmost love of everything Ghostbusters. Established in 2010, we collect funds to support local charities with proceeds primarily going to The Center for Grieving Children."

There's a Sony-sanctioned Ghostbuster group in almost every state of the nation and on almost every continent in the world. Gray says the Maine Ghostbusters is the only one in our state.

"We get some perks from Sony/Columbia for special events like movie openings and New York City celebrations at/around Ladder 8 firehouse. Ghostcore was created to legitimize the groups. There’s one in just about every state. We are the only one in Maine."

"We have about 10 active members. We have a landscaper, a Beer Brewer who is also a comedian, We have a maintenance tech from Ecomaine, A restaurant manager, a Court Marshall, a shoemaker, a couple of business owners/entrepreneurs a mill worker and I’m a referral coordinator at Spurwink. The millworker is also a musician in a band. We all live South of Bangor. I think the northernmost person is in Newport. "

"We can be requested for any event. We’ve done parties, and 'made a wish' for a kiddo with cancer. We do parades, Comic Conventions, and kids events. We just did Wallingford’s Nightmare On The Ridge. We recently did a Bikers Against Child Abuse event. We give patches, stickers, lanyards & other small items for donations to the Center for Grieving Children unless an event we’re attending is raising money for another charity."

Gray says the group does about a dozen appearances a year but would like to see that number grow. She says the more the merrier if someone was considering joining the group. All you need is "a flight suit and some enthusiasm."
