Many Maine Drivers Share this Particularly Annoying Habit
I'm not really shy about how fast I drive...
To me, there's a pretty big difference between driving fast and driving recklessly. You know the second type... They typically weave in and out of lanes, constantly trying to jockey themselves into a better position, despite the cars around them. Often, these are the jerks who are leaving accidents behind them, as they blissfully drive on.

Then there's folks like me. One could argue that I regularly drive waaaaaaay too fast. I won't throw out numbers, but let's just say I'm usually not late for things, hahaha. However, I'm extremely conscious of other drivers, and I'm also extremely conscious of the safety of drivers around me. If it's too crowded to go fast, I don't. That simple.
But... this may be the most annoying thing I see most Maine drivers do.
Speaking of safety behind the wheel, I'm also very conscious of first responders, etc. If I see a cop of a firetruck with their lights on, I pull over like champ. What I don't do, is slow down below the speed limit if I simply see a cop on the road. If I'm not speeding, and they don't have their lights on, why would I hit the brakes?
But what's even worse, are the people who see a cop, and then proceed to slow down to like 5-10 mph below the speed limit. Last I checked, it's perfectly legal for Maine drivers to do the speed limit. Even in front of a cop. So why is there this need to overcompensate and slow down that much?
No one wants a ticket...
I get you don't want to get a speeding ticket. I get that you respect law enforcement. I get that you feel like you should get some sort of gold star for being a law abiding citizen, but if you're not breaking the law, what's the deal? Do you think it'll get you extra points if you let cops know that normally you slow down to less than the limit?

Try that out, and let me know. But for real... if you see a cop, you should never go speeding past them. But you will not get some sort of pat on the back for going too slow. You'll just make everyone behind you mad, while doing absolutely zero to impress that cop on the side of the road. Just think it through... You'll see I'm right. Hahahaha...
