Students from Penobscot County who meet a set of financial and academic criteria may be eligible to attend Husson University for free next year, says Husson's President, Lynne Coy-Ogan.
She sent word out this week that Husson Alumni turned Maine Business owners, Joseph and Suzanne Cyr who started Cyr Bus Lines and Cyr Northstar Tours, have created a scholarship for Penobscot County residents.
According to Husson officials:
"The Cyr Opportunity Scholarship will provide students who have earned a 3.0 GPA in high school, have a family AGI of $80,000 or less, and who live in Penobscot County a tuition-free offer to attend Husson via a combination of federal, state, and institutional aid."
Coy-Ogan says, "As a university, Husson wants to ensure that capable, driven students here in Maine can afford a quality education that prepares them for the future. Enabling local students to attend Husson without incurring debt is an investment in our future, their future and the future of our local economy."
Aside from serving Husson University, The Cyr Bus Company has been transporting Mainers for over 100 years.
“We’re pleased to be the main supporter for this incredible new opportunity for local students that will enable more young people to experience a quality Husson education like we received,” said Joseph and Suzanne Cyr.
Students who are applying for their first year of college in the 2025 school year are eligible to be considered for the scholarship, with admission forms for next year currently being accepted on a rolling basis.
