Pickerel Pond Is The Place To Be This Weekend For Family Ice Fishing Day!
If you're trying to make the most of this winter, and February break, here's an idea for you. It's something the entire family can take part in, and it will get you outside! Head to Milford this weekend, where on Sunday, the folks from the Maine Youth Fish & Game Association will be hosting the 2026 Family Ice Fishing Day.
This year's event was initially supposed to take place on Pickerel Pond, at the end of January, but the temperatures were so cold that week, that they had to postpone it until Sunday February 22nd.

Maine Youth Fish & Game Association was founded in 2001, and has held this Family Ice Fishing Day event for years now. Their goal; to introduce kids of all ages, and their families, to the fun, winter pastime of ice-fishing.
"The event provides a great opportunity for families to learn about ice fishing, try out equipment, and enjoy the outdoors together. Volunteers are on hand to offer instruction, share tips, and ensure a safe and welcoming experience for everyone. It’s a perfect way to introduce kids and adults alike to one of Maine’s favorite winter traditions."
Located at the MYF&G lodge, 1388 Stud Mill Road in Milford, the event will kick off at 8 AM and go until 2 PM. If you don't have your own gear, that's not a problem, as they'll have everything that you need right there on the lake.
"Everything is FREE — including fishing gear, bait, and a hot dog lunch.
Kids 15 and under can fish and compete for prizes! Bring the whole family and enjoy a classic winter tradition."
You can find out more at their website or their Facebook event page.
