Halloween Characters Star Alongside Brewer Kids In Halloween Safety Video
Brewer PD wants folks to be safe this coming Halloween, so they enlisted the help of some young residents, and a cast of Halloween "experts", to help deliver some important Trick-Or-Treating tips in a Halloween safety video.
Brewer's Public Safety Director, Jason Moffatt says the mastermind of this video, Moffat says, is Officer Paul Hacker.
"He's the one that came up with the script. We wanted to do something fun and goofy, that would be fun for all the officers involved, so that was all [Brewer Police] Officers and their families."
Moffatt says the video stars Brewer Police Detective Savannah Lutz as the witch, Sergeant Zachary Caron as the vampire, and Officer Mikayla Rose played the part of Wolfman while Officer Chad Chubbuck led some of Brewer PD kiddos through the safety exercise.
Moffatt says this is the second video Brewer PD has put up on their Facebook page recently, and it won't be the last.
"We're always trying to find ways to engage with the public...We came up with the idea of doing our own, short video productions. Everyone is using social media. And we wanted a way to efficiently put out messages to the public...Our goal is to do one a month on a variety of topics."
He said last month's video centered around the department's new "Blue Envelope" program.
"We invested in some low-cost equipment. We have people already working here that are fairly proficient at this stuff."
"What we've found is that when you're trying to deliver a message, you have a certain amount of time to grab someone's attention to get that information out... you gotta grab someone's attention, and when it's appropriate make it fun. Hit the high points and just try to deliver whatever that message happens to be. And video and social media happens to be a really efficient way to do that...It's kind of like a natural extension of our PR program. "
Moffatt says as far as the Halloween season and trick-or-treating in Brewer goes, aside from the tips highlighted in the video, he wants folks to be aware that Brewer is kind of an old-school city when it comes to the holiday. He urges motorists to be cautious of kids, who will be out on foot in many neighborhoods, trick-or-treating.
"Some of our neighborhoods on the North end and the South end get particularly busy (up in Sherwood Forest, Sunset Strip, Starlight Drive) they're extremely busy up there. If you're a motorist, be really careful and drive slowly because there are kids everywhere. We're still kind of an old-fashioned town. We've got that atmosphere where kids do go out and trick-or-treat door-to-door."
