Two Longtime Maine Spots Make List of ‘America’s Best Classic Diners’

When it comes to restaurants in Maine, we're very fortunate to have thousands to choose from. Whether you're looking for classic down-home cooking like Grandma used to do, or you want to hit up a national chain and get your favorite Red Robin burger, Maine is home to some of the most diverse eateries this side of the Mississippi.

And, not surprisingly, Maine has made another national foodie list.

According to a publication from LoveFood, they took data from user reviews as well as awards and accolades on classic diners from each state in America, and the results are in.

Guess what? Maine had not one, but TWO diners make this coveted list.

The first Maine diner to appear on the LoveFood list was the Palace Diner in Biddeford, Maine. Open 7 days a week and hailed as America's oldest dining car, Biddeford's Palace Diner boasts an extensive menu that features handmade sandwiches to salads, fries, coleslaw and so much more.

Here's what LoveFood went on to say about Maine's Palace Diner,

The teeny-tiny Palace Diner has a small menu to match its dinky size. The 15-seat spot, located inside a trolley car, serves just a handful of dishes for breakfast, and offers only four sandwiches at lunch. Not that anyone minds, because everything is sublime; the tuna melt (pictured) has been described as 'life-changing.' The fire engine–red trolley was built by the Pollard Company in 1927, and is now one of two surviving Pollard diners in the country.

The next Maine classic diner, which is also an old dining car, that made the list is Gardiner's nationally popular A1 diner.

Famous for many things, not the least of which is their Sunday brunch, the A1 Diner has been a Maine staple for literal decades.

Enjoy brunch items like crab benedict, calico scramble, lemon almond French toast and so much more.
