Maine Factory Responsible For Making Iconic Toy Announces Permanent Closure
A recent CNBC report named Maine as one of the states where operating a business is most difficult.
Most people were not surprised by this. If you have lived in Maine for more than a few years, you have seen numerous businesses close. These business are in all sectors, too. Many were restaurants & bars, but there were also retailers, service industry companies, and manufacturing businesses.
Sadly, we are hearing that another Maine manufacturing business has called it quits.
Pride Manufacturing in Maine is Closing
According to the KJ, Pride Manufacturing has announced that it will be closing its Burnham, Maine factory.
In Maine since 1954, the factory manufactures wood products like cigar tips and golf tees.
Additionally, since 2014, the factory has been one of the makers of Lincoln Logs.
The factory will close for the last time in April. The company plans to offer the 115 workers severance packages and help them find new employment.
The article goes on to explain that Select Board member Rick Basford says Pride is Burnham’s largest taxpayer, kicking in about $200,000 a year. Most of that comes from taxes on equipment. About a third is property tax, which the company will still have to pay even after the plant closes.
Basford says the town plans to talk through the impact of the closure Tuesday during Burnham’s annual budget hearing.
