Police are investigating the discovery of human remains in Falmouth.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the skeletal remains were found Sunday morning by a couple taking a walk in a heavily wooded area off Route 100. They were transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for examination.

State and Falmouth Police are checking missing persons reports, although none have been filed locally. The exact location of the discovery is being withheld until further work is completed by the medical examiners.
