There’s a ‘Hopeful’ New Sign in Downtown Bangor
This is -- or will be -- a great addition to downtown Bangor. You know the building in downtown Bangor at the corner of Main Street and Union Street, with the Bangor postcard mural?
People who drive by it every day still notice it. And those for away see it and love it. That building houses the Main Tavern. The address is 154 Main Street.
Yesterday the other side of that building had a sign erected. I happened to be driving by. Here’s the sign being installed on the McGuire Building.
And here’s the deal. This is The United Way of Eastern Maine’s gift to the City of Bangor.
The official ceremony will be this Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The lighting of the sign will take place at that time. Of course, the public is invited to attend, but you are being asked to register that you will be attending. Here is the link.
The sign was designed by artist Charlie Hewitt. "Hopeful" merchandise will also be available for purchase.
When one hears the word hopeful or hope, The Shawshank Redemption comes to mind. Andy Dufresne said it so well
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And a good thing never dies.
This sign is going to look so good on that wall. May it bring inspiration to us all. And to the United Way of Eastern Maine and to the artist Charlie Hewitt, Thank you for your optimistic word.
