An 18-year-old hiker had to be rescued after slipping and falling 30 feet into Moxie gorge.

Wardens say Antonio Jacobs of China, Maine was hiking with three friends at around 4:30 Monday afternoon, when he slipped and fell down a 30-foot embankment, finally coming to rest on the edge of Moxie Stream, at the base of the falls. Moxie Falls is Maine's highest waterfall, dropping over 90 feet. Because of his injuries, he was unable to move on his own.

Members of the Maine Warden Service, Maine Border Patrol, Maine Forest Service, West Forks Fire and Rescue, and Upper Kennebec Ambulance, along with some civilian volunteers, worked together to rescue Jacobs. He was loaded into a rescue basket and taken out of the gorge at around 7:00 p.m. and then taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight for treatment of injuries to his ankle, knee, and ribs.
