Do This Maine Hike Immediately, Especially in the Fall
It is NOT the prettiest hike up. It is also not the easiest hike up. On the other hand, it is also not the ugliest hike up nor the hardest by any means. It's average. It's an average workout.
You will get your heart rate up and sweat for 45 minutes on an unpaved, slightly rocky consistently inclined trail. You'll feel great afterward just as you would after any 45-minute workout. The difference with this trail and why I am writing about it today, is the payoff at the top of Chick Hill.
You Won't Find Many Better Views Than the One atop Chick Hill, Maine
I told you (and if you disagree after seeing the photo above, you are wrong). With only being 20-30 minutes outside of the Bangor/Brewer area, this is a convenient gem. Better than a gem because the pictures (check out all of them below) don't give Chick Hill the reverence it deserves for being such a short commute. It's a diamond.
Finding the Parking Lot at Chick Hill, Maine is Slightly Challenging
I only say challenging because Apple Maps will tell you that you still need to keep driving to the parking lot when you have already arrived. With no cars in the "parking lot" it can be slightly challenging to identify especially when your iPhone is telling you to keep driving. Don't by the way. The route Apple Maps wants you to continue on is very much meant to be hiked, and your sedan won't make it very far. Here is what the lot looks like for reference.
My Rating for Chick Hill, Maine
On an early August afternoon with two dogs and sneakers on, this hike was a solid 10 out of 10 BECAUSE of the payoff at the end. We cannot wait to hike this again, especially in the fall.
