This Saturday, May 11th, the Friends of Lower Kenduskeag Stream are looking for folks who'd like to help out with their annual spring cleanup. Starting at 9:30a.m., folks will gather behind the Penquis CAP building on Harlow Street and then spread out around the area to begin putting the trail back together for the season.

Over the winter, lots of garbage and debris can build up, and every spring folks team up to get out and bring some of the beauty of the area back into shape. According to a post on Facebook, activities will include:

  • Litter & trash can duty
  • Graffiti patrol
  • Clearing out some drainage areas
  • Trail smoothing

It's only going to be for a couple hours, but if enough people show up to help out, then a pretty significant amount of work could get done. They also suggest sturdy shoes, and appropriate outdoor get-dirty clothes, plus some sunscreen and plenty of water. If you're a handy person, and could bring some basic tools with you, that would also be a bonus.

At the very least, it's supposed to be a nice day. So you can just look at it as getting out and enjoying some outdoor time. And, if you're a big user of the trail, just think of it as the price you pay for all the enjoyment you get from it. And it's a pretty darn small price at that.
