If You Got Brie Cheese at Hannaford, You May Want to Take It Back
Hannaford Supermarkets have issued a recall on some of their Brie cheeses, due to possible Listeria contamination.
Which Products Are Being Recalled?
Certain packages of Taste of Inspirations Brie products are the subject of this recall. Hannaford officials decided to issue the recall after being alerted by the company that makes the cheese, Old Europe Cheese, Inc. that the products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Hannaford is one portion of a much larger recall from the cheese manufacturer.
If you purchased Taste of Inspirations Brie products from Hannaford recently, you'll want to check for this on the label:
- Taste of Inspirations Triple Creme Brie Round 8 oz. with the UPC code: 72543999973
- Taste of Inspirations Cut Brie 60% Wedge (random weight) with UPC: 20781400000

What Do I Do If I Have Some of This Cheese?
According to Hannaford's website, the products have 'Best By' dates ranging from September 28, 2022, to December 14, 2022. Customers are encouraged to check their refrigerators and freezers for any of these products. If they find any, they're encouraged to return them to their local Hannaford store for a full refund.
What Is Listeriosis?
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious illness when ingested. The United States Center for Disease Control reports approximately 1,600 people are diagnosed with Listeriosis every year, nationwide, and about 260 die. Symptoms of the illness include:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Stiff Neck
- Confusion
- Loss of Balance
- Seizures
So far, with this nationwide recall of Brie from Old Europe Cheese, Inc. products, 6 people have become sick and 5 have been hospitalized. None of those people are from Maine.
