Governor Janet Mills has ordered that all flags be flown at half-staff until Detective Ben Campbell's funeral on Tuesday.

Originally, the governor had ordered flags at half-staff on Wednesday, immediately after the death of Detective Campbell was announced by the Maine State Police, and they were to be raised back to full staff on Thursday. She added that flags would be lowered, once again, on the day of Campbell's funeral.

But Friday morning, Governor Mills announced a new directive, in response to the release of memorial service details. Now, she has ordered all United States and State of Maine flags to be flown at half-staff statewide, beginning immediately, and lasting until sunset on Tuesday, April 9th. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

Governor Mills expressed that her thoughts and prayers were with his family, friends, and loved ones, as well as the state's law enforcement community, saying the Detective represented 'the very best of our state,' whose 'legacy of kindness and compassion' will be forever etched on the minds of Mainers.
