Gardiner Shooting Suspect Interviewed But Not Charged
Police say they've interviewed the person suspected of shooting a man in West Gardiner but, so far, no charges have been filed.
41-year-old James Haskell was killed outside a home on Yeaton Drive just before 3:00 Saturday morning. When police arrived at the home, they were met by multiple witnesses, who had been at a gathering there. State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said everyone in attendance was cooperative with investigators.
Now, the Portland Press Herald reports police interviewed the person involved in the shooting. No charges have been filed, at this point, because it's unclear whether a crime was committed, according to McCausland. Haskell is known to police, according to the PPH, with an extensive criminal history for burglary, theft, forgery, assault, gross sexual assault, drug charges and more.
The investigation is continuing, including an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's office.
