Gardiner Police Say 2 People are Dead After Motorcycle-SUV Crash
Gardiner Police say two people were killed when their motorcycle collided with an SUV on Sunday.
The accident happened at around 9:00 Sunday night, at the intersection of Cherry and Water Streets in Gardiner. Police say a Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by 22-year-old Anthony Fournier of Sabattus collided with a Ford Escape SUV, driven by Patrick Shepard, 48, of Readfield. Witnesses say the motorcycle crossed into the path of the SUV, in the area near 617 Water Street, causing the accident.
Both Fournier and his passenger, 24-year-old Kristin Doughty of Winthrop, died at the scene of the crash. Shepard was transported to General Medical Center by Gardiner Rescue for complaints of pain. His passenger was not hurt.
Officials say neither person on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. The investigation remains open and ongoing. No charges are expected.
