The former owner of Edge Video in Bangor was found guilty this week of copyright infringement and mail fraud.

Douglas Gordon, age 52 of Mattawamkeag, was in federal court this week in Bangor, accused of illegally copying more than 38,000 movies and mailing them across state lines. Federal prosecutors say Gordon kept up the practice, even after warnings from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Motion Picture Association of America.

WVII-TV reports Gordon's attorney argued in court that the movies his client duplicated were in the public domain and no longer protected by copyright laws. Gordon said he researched copyright laws and believed his actions were within the law. He says they will appeal the verdict.
