The State Fire Marshal's Office on Thursday arrested a local man in connection with several fires at the former Lincoln paper mill.

A scale house and a vacant storage building were destroyed by the fires, which were fought by nearly half a dozen fire departments Wednesday.

A third fire at the mill’s wastewater facility went out by itself.

David Parsons, 59, of Lincoln, a former employee of the mill, was arrested Thursday around noontime and charged with three counts of arson, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a release issued shortly after the arrest.

Parsons' arrest came after he was questioned by fire investigators at the Lincoln police station. He was then transported to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

Police questioned Parsons after Tom Fiske, a state trooper who lives in Lincoln, received a tip that Parsons may have  been involved in the fires.
