A golf tournament in Rockport next month to benefit a local shelter will include a hole-in-one car giveaway and tickets available online for a ball-drop worth $1,000.

With so many activities and fundraisers cancelled in recent months, we're excited to share information about one that's actually happening. Social distancing is pretty easy on a golf course, so the Fore Paws Golf Tournament and Ball Drop will be held August 14th at the Goose River Golf Club in Rockport. Participants will compete for prizes, including a hole-in-one contest that could have the winner driving away in a brand new vehicle. Registration is $100 per player or $400 for a team. Anyone who wants to sign up on their own will be placed with a team.

Non-golfers, like me, can also take part virtually, through the golf ball-drop. Tickets are available online for $10 each, and only 1,000 are being sold. On the day of the event, 1,000 numbered golf balls will be taken up in a cherry picker and then dropped onto the green. The owner of the ball that gets closest to the hole wins $1,000. Second closest wins $500. And you don't have to be present to win.

All the money raised by the event will benefit the good works of the PAWS Animal Shelter, which has worked throughout the pandemic to find great forever homes for homeless animals. The shelter in Camden has plenty of animals up for adoption, if you're looking for a furry family member. You can preview the animals online, and then call to make an appointment to meet them.
