The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fire in an Oakland camper that killed one person.

Oakland Fire Rescue says the camper sat next to a mobile home on Sawtelle Road. The property and the camper belong to Kirk Mullen, but officials say Mullen was not the victim. Officials believe the deceased is 46-year-old William Halley. His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for examination. Halley lived alone in the camper, which sat in his friend's driveway.

Several mobile homes are located on the property and officials say it was one of the neighboring residents who first reported the fire. When crews arrived, the camper was totally engulfed in flames.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will now investigate to determine how the fire started. Immediately after the fire, officials were looking closely at the camper's propane heater.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
