Shane Smith, who was wanted by police in connection to the fentanyl-toxicity death of his child, has turned himself over to police.

Bangor police say Smith, 31, turned himself into the Penobscot County Jail Thursday at around 10:30 p.m. Smith, of Winterport, had been sought by police since the death of his child at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

On October 19, police and fire personnel responded to a residence in the Holiday Trailer Park in Bangor to a report of an unresponsive 1-year-old child, later identified as Jordynn Nelligan. After an autopsy, the Chief Medical Examiner's office found the cause of death to be probable toxic effects of fentanyl.

Jordynn Nelligan's mother, Kimberly Nelligan was taken into custody immediately, and an arrest warrant was issued for Smith. Like Nelligan, Smith is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
