Fatal Dump Truck Crash in Dyer Brook Caused by Blown Tire
A dump truck driver died in a crash after a blown tire caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Maine State Police responded to the accident at 10:30 Wednesday morning. When they arrived in the southbound lane of I-95 in Dyer Brook, they found 68-year-old Michael Marshall of Houlton deceased. Officials say as he was traveling in his 1999 Volvo dump truck, one of the tires blew. Marshall lost control of the truck and left the pavement, where it rolled over before striking several trees. Investigators say speed is not considered to have been a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
I-95 was restricted to one lane for several hours, as police worked to recreate the crash and clear the scene. State Police were assisted at the scene by MDOT, fire departments from Oakland, Island Falls, and Houlton, as well as Houlton Ambulance.
