Police say a former student of Dirigo High School in Dixfield was killed and two current students injured in a single-car crash.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 19-year-old Griffyn Smith of Dixfield was killed when a car he was riding in went out of control on the West Side Road at around 11:30 Thursday night, struck a tree, and turned over. Smith graduated from Dirigo High School in 2016.

The car was driven by 18-year-old Ethyn Buotte of Dixfield and also contained a 17-year-old girl, whose name has not yet been released. Both are being treated at the Rumford hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

State Troopers were assisted at the scene by Franklin County Sheriff's Deputies and the Weld Fire Department. The District Attorney's Office has been consulted about whether any charges will be filed.

Police continue to investigate the single-car accident.
