State Police have released the details of an early morning collision in Morrill between a car and a dump truck.

The accident happened just before 8:00 Wednesday morning on Route 3 in Morrill, near Higgins Hill Road. Public Safety spokesperson Katy England reports 34-year-old Nicholas Day of Belmont was traveling west on route 3 when his car crossed the center line, into the path of an oncoming loaded dump truck. Day died at the scene.

The dump truck, driven by 31-year-old Eugene Hyde of Wilton, is owned and operated by C.H. Stevenson of Wayne. Police say the investigation is ongoing but speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash.

Route 3 was shut down for 8 hours while local fire departments assisted with diverting traffic.
