A Fairfield woman died after she and two others fell from a whitewater raft on the Kennebec River.

The incident happened at around 11:30 Saturday morning. 33-year-old Emily Fournier and her family were together on the whitewater rafting trip with the Magic Falls Rafting company, when she and two others were ejected as they paddled through one of the larger rapids on the upper Kennebec. Fournier floated through a portion of the river before being pulled back into the raft. She was unresponsive, so emergency life-saving measures were performed until the raft arrived at an emergency evacuation point at the Moxie Lake boat launch. EMS personnel were there and loaded her into an ambulance, but emergency procedures were unsuccessful.

Assisting the Magic Falls Rafting staff were the Maine Warden Service, Somerset County Sheriff's Office, Forks Fire and Rescue Department, and Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance Service.
