Fairfield, Maine Police have arrested 2 residents of New York in two days, in unrelated cases.
Fairfield, Maien Police Arrest a Fugitive From Justice from New York
Tyreek Smith, 34, of New York City, was arrested on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, as a fugitive from justice.
It was just before 8 pm on Wednesday when two members of the Fairfield Police Deparment were dispatched to a trespass complaint on the Skowhegan Road.
After their initial interaction with Smith, the police found that he had given a false date of birth to the officers.
Once they learned his actual date of birth, officers found that Smith had an active nationwide extradition warrant from New York State for parole violations, stemming from a felony assault charge.
Fairfield and Maine State Police conducted a high risk traffic stop and took Smith into custody without incident.
He's charged in Maine with being a fugitive from justice and is being held without bail until he can be returned to New York to face charges there.
Fairfield, Maine Police Arrest a New York Man for Criminal Threatening
On Thursday, February 26, 2026, Fairfield Police arrested another man from New York, in a case unrelated to the arrest of Mr. Smith.
Tysean Washington, 28, of Brooklyn, New York, faces multiple charges:
- Criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon
- Aggravated reckless conduct
- Aggravated criminal trespass
- Refusing to submit to arrest or detention
- Falsifying physical evidence
- Assault
He was taken to jail, where his bail was set at $500 cash.
Fairfield, Maine Police Say New York Suspect Allegedly Had a Firearm When He Ran
The charges stem from an incident that was reported as a disturbance and assault on Main Street.
When officers responded, one of the people believed to be involved in the altercation fled the scene on foot, with one pursuing officer allegedly witnessing Washington pulling a firearm from his waistband.
He was tracked to a wooded area by the river, where he was taken into custody without incident.
A firearm was recovered shortly after.
This incident remains under investigation.
