Hunting coyotes will be legal from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise beginning December 16th. It's still illegal to hunt on Sundays. This season lasts for 8 months, until August 31st.

There are more than 10,000 coyotes in Maine, regulated hunting is a way to keep them from encroaching on urban areas.

Currently it is also hunting season for bobcat, fox and snowshoe hare in the state.
