A Medford man is charged with manslaughter for an accident in Alton that killed his brother's mother-in-law.

Police say 25-year-old Tyler Creighton was allegedly texting when he struck a vehicle driven by 63-year-old Robin Gardner of LaGrange. She died in the Route 16 accident that happened the morning after Thanksgiving. Gardner's daughter is married to Creighton's half-brother, Alex.

Creighton was indicted this month by a Penobscot County grand jury on charges of manslaughter, aggravated criminal operating under the influence of intoxicants, driving to endanger, and violation of condition of release.
