Down East Credit Union Robbery Suspect Caught In Connecticut
A Hampden man suspected of robbing Down East Credit Union in Bangor was arrested Sunday in Connecticut.
59-year-old Ronald Tilley of Hampden has been sought by police since the credit union on Springer Drive in Bangor was robbed last Wednesday. He was finally taken into custody after getting caught shoplifting in South Windsor, Connecticut.
WFSB-TV reports South Windsor police were called to a store Sunday afternoon for a theft complaint. Employees told police that they had to detain Tilley, who tried to leave the scene. When police ran Tilley's information, they found that he was wanted for robbery in Bangor. He's been charged in Connecticut with Larceny and as a Fugitive from Justice. He's charged with class B robbery in Maine.
Tilley's being held on a $100,000 surety bond and was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday. He will be extradited to Maine to face the robbery charge, as well.
