Don’t Miss The Final Mount Hope Cemetery Walking Tours In Bangor

Take a virtual visit at one of Bangor's most beautiful spots, and get a history lesson while you are it.

There are just a few walking tours left, through the historic, and iconic, Mount Hope Cemetery. Taking a stroll through Mount Hope is always better in person, but during this event, they will be taking a look around the grounds, and breaking down some of the stories of some of the many notable and interesting stones in the cemetery.

Built in 1834, Bangor’s 300-acre Mount Hope Cemetery is the nation’s second-oldest garden cemetery. It was designed by renowned architect Charles G. Bryant as part of a national movement to provide respite from grassless urban landscapes. Garden cemeteries were created as much for living as for those who had passed on.

There have been many times over the years that I have enjoyed a visit there on a chilly early fall day, there is nothing quite like it. This is something you should put on a summer/fall to-do list here in the Bangor area.

This tour meets at the Superintendent’s House at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1048 State Street, Bangor.

Tickets are $10. Here are the dates and times of the last two tours:

• Tuesday, September 14, 6-7:30 pm
• Sunday, September 19, 10-11:30 am

The tours will adhere to CDC guidelines and recommendations. They will practice social distancing steps and require everyone to have a face-covering with them while on the tours in case that social distancing is not possible.
