Summertime is historically one of the worst times of year for blood banks. Many of the folks who would normally donate are unavailable or out of town taking vacations. So it's already a time when blood supplies are very low. Factor the pandemic into the situation, and the challenge to replenish the supply is even greater.

Why should you consider giving blood? Well, according to redcrossblood.org:

"Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood."

Personally, I have had at least 3 immediate family members who's lives have been saved by blood donations.

So, for the simple fact that your donation could save a life, that's probably a pretty great reason to think about it.

But if you need to "push the needle" over the edge a bit, The American Red Cross Donation Center in Bangor is helping to sweeten the pot a bit.

If you schedule a blood donation at their 900B Hammond St. Donor Center in Bangor on one of the following dates in July and August, you'll get an all-inclusive pass to enjoy the Bangor State Fair for free.

Folks eligible for this perk need to donate on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday July 26th through the 29th. They will also be extending the benefit to presenting donors who come in from Monday August 2nd through Friday August 6th.
