There is so much readily available nature and beauty to see in Maine and during this time of year, wildflowers, so it felt slightly absurd to not only travel a couple hours to look at other flowers, but also pay for admission. Fortunately, I ignored my ignorance and made the 2-hour trip to Boothbay Harbor, Maine and forked over my adult fare to look at what was so much more than just flowers.

I'm talking about the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Just the serenity you feel alone while exploring their many acres is worth the price of admission. You also receive an education, discover new beauty, have perennial photo opportunities (including photos in the Perennial Garden), and you get to hang with trolls. Scroll down for a few photos from our experience below, but we will be taking all of our out of state visitors to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (once we purchase the annual pass).

Travel and Tickets to Get into Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens do sell out on busy days, so you'll want to buy your tickets in advance. You also save $2 per ticket if you buy in advance, and you can do so right here in addition to seeing prices. It looks like they are accepting admission until October 20th, 2024, and then will be closed until after winter.

Our Overall Experience at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

It was a 2-hour drive from Brewer, Maine to arrive at the gardens in Boothbay. Our admission was $39 total for me (adult) and my wife (adult-student). There are over 300 acres to explore so we certainly did not see everything. There are five impressive (and fun) trolls to visit, and we were only able to make it to four of them in the three hours that we were at the gardens.

There is a cafe in the middle of the venue where you can grab snacks, a meal, or even coffee, beer, and wine. We spent a lot of time walking through the forest where we found ourselves in a fairy garden. We walked along the coast before ending up at a waterfall and visiting two of the five trolls. We even made friends with a few chipmunks and frogs.
