Coast Guard Searching For 80-Year-Old Boater
The Coast Guard is searching for an 80-year-old man whose sailboat ran aground near Cape Elizabeth.
A local fire department contacted the Coast Guard just after 6:00 Thursday evening that the unmanned 33-foot sailboat 'Tarrier' had run aground near Cape Elizabeth. They reported that the sails were up and a skiff was in tow behind the vessel, but there was no one on-board.
Joining the Coast Guard in the search are the Maine Marine Patrol, the Cape Elizabeth water extraction team, and the Scarborough Fire Department. The search is being conducted on land, on the water, and by air with the use of a helicopter and plane.
Anyone with information about the sailboat or its owner is asked to contact Coast Guard Sector Northern New England watchstanders at (207) 767-0303.
