A traffic stop for a driver with an outstanding warrant resulted in the seizure of a large number of illegal drugs.

Clinton, Maine Police Arrest a Somerset County Man on Drug Charges

Lewis E. Howard Jr. was arrested on February 12, 2026, after being spotted by Clinton Officer Caleb Proctor, who recognized him as someone with an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear.

During his arrest, officers allegedly found suspected narcotics on the Somerset County man, and so a search of his vehicle was conducted.

Clinton, Maine Police Seize Nearly $50K in Illegal Drugs During Traffic Stop

Seized in that search were:

  • 2,001 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • 147 grams of suspected cocaine base
  • 327 grams of suspected marijuana
  • 75 grams of suspect psilocybin mushrooms

Clinton Police say the combined estimated street value of the drugs is nearly $50,000.

As a result of this investigation, Howard has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, and unlawful possession of illegal drugs.

He's scheduled to appear at Kennebec Superior Court on April 14, 2026.
