A Maine man was killed in a violent crash after allegedly threatening others with a firearm.
Whiting, Maine, Man is Killed in a Single-Vehicle Crash in Charlotte
Robert Boggia, Jr., of Whiting, died in a crash on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Maine State Troopers learned of the crash on Charlotte Road in Charlotte at approximately 12:48 am.
Boggia, who was alone in the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
When the police began investigating, a bizarre series of events were uncovered, leading up to the crash.
Maine Man Allegedly Threatened Others With a Gun Before Dying in a Crash
Officials learned that Boggia had been at a bar in Calais earlier that night, where he allegedly threatened people with a firearm.
The police were called, but Boggia fled the scene before officers arrived.
He was later spotted on Route 1 in Calais, driving a red corvette at an estimated 150 miles per hour.
Baileyville PD tried to catch up to him, but were unsuccessful.
When Boggia reached Charlotte Road, he drove by a Washington County Sheriff's Deputy at a high rate of speed.
The deputy couldn't catch up to the vehicle, but eventually came across the crash scene.
Maine Police Say a Fatal Crash in Charlotte Was Caused by High Speed
Investigators say Boggia was located a significant distance from the crash site, having been ejected from the vehicle.
High speed is said to have been the largest contributor to the crash.
Officials continue to investigate this crash and say that toxicology results are pending an examination of the deceased.
