Six people who police say were involved in a shooting near the Calais Motor Inn made their first court appearance this week.

Two people from Baileyville, 27-year-old Stephen Perkins and 25-year-old Brittany Wescott, and four men from the Bronx, New York were all indicted on aggravated attempted murder charges by a Washington County grand jury last week. The New York residents are 21-year-old Marco Luis Figuereo-Frias, 26-year-old Elmer Frias, 24-year-old Jordan Rodriguez, and 20-year-old Saul Figuereo.

Police were called to an area near the Calais Motor Inn at around 11:00 on the night of December 27th to reports of a shooting. The victim escaped unharmed but told police that the men had allegedly fired at him. While police were talking with Perkins, the other four men fled the scene in a vehicle, leading police on a lengthy high-speed chase. All five men were also charged with drug trafficking at the time of their arrests. Officials say Wescott is accused of luring the intended victim to the hotel.

All six will make their next court appearance in June.
