A native of South Brewer has big plans for Tozier's Market, but plans to keep that neighborhood spirit.

The New Owner of Tozier's Market Grew Up in South Brewer, Maine

Adam Ketchum grew up in South Brewer and probably went to Tozier's Market almost daily. I also grew up in Brewer and, like Adam, moved to Orrington as an adult, so I love that he still cares about his old neighborhood.

I grew up in South Brewer and, when I heard that Tozier's was closing, decided we could not let a local institution go under.

To clarify, this is the original Tozier's Family Market in Brewer, not the former Stop n' Shop that's closer to the bridge.

Adam owns A&M Home Care and the A&M Men's Collective in Holden, and he plans to rename Tozier's Market as A&M Family Market.

Maybe the best news is that Ketchum says all the current employees are keeping their jobs. I love it when new owners show respect for the people who are already keeping the business running.

A&M Family Market will also accept EBT cards.

Construction starts the first week of June, as Adam plans major renovations to the building. All of that work will happen at night to ensure the customers won't be inconvenienced.

He says they're planning to renovate the exterior with a new facade and deck, and make it accessible for community members with disabilities. The focus will be on providing groceries for the community and bringing back the meat deli and the ice cream. And for anyone craving some pie, Adam says they're installing a pizza oven.

Adam Ketchum, thank you for not allowing this community market to go under. We can't wait to see what you do with the place.
