Firefighters are on the roof of Brewer High School after a reported electrical fire.
Brewer High School Students Have Been Evacuated to the Ball Fields
Students gathered in the ball fields behind the school on Thursday morning, where the sound of fire alarms could be heard from the building. No smoke or flames were visible. In a note sent to parents, school officials said buses would be picking the students up from the ballfield and sending them home.
Brewer Fire Officials Say an Electrical Fire Began in the Roof
The note states that smoke was detected coming out of a vent, and the school was evacuated. Fire officials told WABI-TV that the smoke was from an electrical fire that started near the roof. No injuries have been reported.
Traffic is moving through the area on Parkway South, but drivers should be aware of several trucks in front of the school and an ambulance parked across the street.
Brewer High School is Closed for the Day Due to a Lack of Power
The school has no power and is closed for the day. Students are being dismissed in an orderly manner and school officials are asking parents not to tell their children they can leave before school officials give them the go-ahead.
