The Brewer High School Robotics Team will host a robot track meet and a yard sale on Saturday, to raise money for the club.

When I first read 'Track Meet' in the media release, I thought it was strange that an organization that builds robots would hold a competitive running event. But then, as I continued to read, I realized that this is a track meet for robots. It's open to grades 3 through 8th, and students can compete with either LEGO or VEX IQ robots. Organizers say the event will include the famous LEGO bridge competition. A 'team' can be just one person or can have as many members as desired but, no matter how many members, each team has to pre-register. However, the meet is free to watch and the Orange Chaos Team from Brewer and Maine Robotics are hoping a lot of people will stop by to check out all the cool robots.

A benefit yard sale will be held in the Brewer High School cafeteria at the same time the meet is going on outside the school. Items up for sale will include furniture, clothing, sporting goods, books, and a lot more. It sounds like a fun way to kick off yard sale season in Maine. And the funds raised by the sale will help enable the team to purchase equipment and tools to develop and expand their knowledge and experience in STEM subjects, and help offset travel costs.

See, Brewer has a pretty cool Robotics team. This academic year, Orange Chaos earned an invitation to the Districts Competition in Worcester, Massachusetts. The team won the Entrepreneurship Award at the Pine Tree District Competition and the Imagery Award from the Granite State competition, among many other honors.
