Granted, the summer is almost over.

Imagine growing up your whole life in the Brewer area and getting used to the presence of the Brewer Public Pool. It would be so easy to take it for granted. Of course, that's probably how the folks who live near the Dakin Pool in Bangor felt this year too. The Brewer pool has just been slowly getting some work done on it, but now there's action.

There's still a lot of life left in the summer, and maybe they can even do something like keep it open if the weekends are warm in September.

I drove by yesterday and noticed that there was water flowing into the pool at a generous speed. We told you recently that there were definitely repairs being made, and that the city hoped to get things running. Well, it looks like they're going to make good on their word. There are several water spigots pumping water in there.

The pandemic hasn't helped anything.

Staffing issues have been plaguing everyone in the area. Bangor had to go to part time at the Dakin Pool. And there's no clear indication at the Brewer Parks & Rec Facebook page, if there will be any interruption in Brewer's pool hours because of staffing. Not only that, when I was looking around, I couldn't find any info about when it would officially be open.

There's still a lot of life left in the summer, and maybe they can even do something like keep it open if the weekends are warm in September. Last year they had to shut it down early for the whole season because broken glass got into the water, and they had to drain the whole pool. Add in the refilling process, and they just opted to close early.

It'll certainly be an abbreviated season at the Brewer Public Pool, but with the weather we've been having, it'll still be a great asset if the weather turns crazy hot again. Even a bunch a days in the 80's are worth it. Regardless, anything that gets the kiddies in the water is a good thing.
