Maine State Police say a New Hampshire man is charged with murder for the shooting death of a Berwick, Maine man.

What Happened?

Berwick Police were called to Katabel Lane shortly before 8:00 Thursday morning for a report of a man with a gunshot wound to his head. When officers got to the residence they found Mark Forest, 37, of Berwick severely injured. He was transported to Wentworth-Douglas Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire where he was later pronounced dead. Officials say an autopsy was conducted on Friday morning, resulting in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruling the man's death a homicide.

Who is the Suspect?

After Forest was taken to the hospital, Maine and New Hampshire State Police Detectives worked in conjunction with Berwick police, as well as investigators from Rochester, New Hampshire, conducting interviews and trying to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting. From that investigation, detectives identified Daniel Lafrenier, 37, of Rochester, New Hampshire as a person of interest in the case. They put out a BOLO (Be on the lookout) to local agencies.

Where Did Police Catch Up to Him?

York, Maine Police received a complaint that someone was trying to force their way into a home on the York Road. When officers responded, they found the suspect, Daniel Lafrenier, attempting to gain entry into the residence. He was transported to the York Police Department for an interview and was later charged with murder. Lafrenier was taken to the York County Jail.
