Berwick's Fire Captain perished in an apartment house fire Friday, that also injured four other firefighters.

Captain Joel Barnes, 32, died while fighting a four-alarm fire on Bell Street, that was reported just before 11 a.m. Four other firefighters were taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, where they were treated and released. All of the building's tenant's made it out safely.

One tenant told WGME-TV that she believes the fire broke out in the apartment above hers. She said she ran around the building, making sure everyone knew about the fire, grabbed her pets and ran outside. There's no word yet on what sparked the blaze.

Captain Barnes' body has been taken to the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine cause of death. The fire remains under investigation.

He's survived by his mother, father, and sister.
