A woman from Bath is facing multiple charges after creating a standoff with police.

Bath Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Middle Street just after 1:00 yesterday afternoon in which a woman was in a house and possibly armed. Responding officers talked with a man at the scene and, based on that conversation, set up a perimeter and surrounded the house. Police also advised the staff at MidCoast Federal Credit Union, which was located nearby, to go into lock down.

Sergeant Dan Couture negotiated with Jennifer Becze, age 36, by phone and from outside the home. Just before 4:00, she agreed to come out of the house and was taken to MidCoast Hospital in Brunswick for an evaluation. Becze has been charged with Creating a Police Standoff, which is a misdemeanor. She's due to make her first court appearance next month.

Bath Police were assisted at the scene by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office and Bath EMS.
