A Bangor woman's 8-year-old son was present when she was arrested this week for allegedly selling heroin.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says Melissa Johnson, 39, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the Airport Mall parking lot, off Union Street in Bangor. Drug agents and Bangor Police have been investigating the sale of heroin in Bangor, focusing on Johnson. The case concluded with the undercover purchase of the drug.

Her apartment was then searched at 1030 Ohio Street, and agents seized approximately 2 ounces of heroin and $25,000 in cash, along with her 2007 BMW. The street value of the heroin was $10,000.

Johnson has been charged with two counts of Class 'A' Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W drugs (heroin). One of the counts was aggravated due to the amount seized. The second count was aggravated because Johnson had her son with her during the commission of a drug trafficking crime involving the distribution of heroin.

She was taken to the Penobscot County Jail where bail was set at $50,000 cash. The boy was turned over to the custody of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
