A man who created a police standoff this week at Bangor's Birch Hill Estates is now facing charges.

WABI-TV reports 25-year-old Benjamin McGary of Bangor is charged with violating a protection order. Police say the man allegedly entered the home with a firearm and threatened violence. When officers arrived, he refused to come out of the house and a perimeter was set up while police worked to establish communication.

Eventually, McGary walked out of the building, unarmed, and surrendered to police. There's no indication that any shots were fired. The gun that McGary is suspected of bringing to the residence was recovered after he was taken into custody.

Bangor Police say the man also had an outstanding warrant regarding several domestic violence crimes.
