One person was killed when a small plane crashed at Bangor International Airport on Friday.

Bangor, Maine, Plane Crash Friday Afternoon at the Airport Kills 1 Person

The pilot has been identified as Luigi Accusani, 74, of Italy. Bangor Police say first responders tried to save the individual but Mr. Accusani died in the crash.

Bangor, Maine, Plane Crashed Just Off the Runway at BIA

It was approximately 1:21 p.m. on Friday when the plane went down just off the runway, outside the fence at Bangor International Airport.

Officials say Mr. Accusani had taken off from Goose Bay, Newfoundland, and was trying to land in Bangor when the crash happened.

Bangor Police are working with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how the crash happened.

Bangor, Maine, Police Want Any Video Taken of the Plane Crash

Detective Brent Beaulieu says several aviation enthusiasts were filming aircraft, at the time of the incident. Anyone who captured the crash on video is encouraged to upload it it to the police to aid in the investigation.
