Westbrook police are looking for an SUV that was involved in a fatal hit and run last night. A 51-year-old woman was killed when she was struck while walking near the intersection of William Clarke Drive and Stroudwater Street. The woman’s name has not been released, pending notification of family.

It’s Rail Safety week, and Maine is joining most of the nation in getting the word out about how to use caution around trains. Some tips from ‘Operation Clear Track’ include only crossing tracks at public crossings, never driving across railroad tracks unless you can see clearly that there’s no train coming, and never stopping your vehicle on the tracks while you wait for traffic. A Winthrop business that educates users of medicinal marijuana is now offering classes to help people interested in using it recreationally. The owners of Homegrown Healthcare offer a variety of subjects including setting up a marijuana business, starting seeds and clones, plant care, and even cooking. Classes will start in October.

Folks looking for some fun this weekend that will also benefit a great cause will want to be in Dover-Foxcroft Friday, between 7 and 9, when Taylor road will perform at the Center Theater, in a benefit for the Aliza Jean Family Cancer foundation. And then on Saturday evening, a potluck supper at the Rec Center in Sullivan will benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey. Folks are encouraged to bring their favorite dish and they their luck at winning raffle items.
