Roads are icy this morning and drivers are reminded to take it slow. Some schools and businesses are closed for the day, and state offices will delay their opening until 11. Find a list of cancellations here, which will be updated throughout the day.
A woman was alerted to a fire at her house by an app on her phone, even though she and her family were not home. The woman noticed smoke when she looked at the image from a room monitor she had set up to feed to her phone. Firefighters got there soon enough to limit the damage to one room.
Triple A New England is offering some tips on staying safe while out holiday shopping this year, including making sure your vehicle is locked whenever it’s left unattended, with the windows all the way up. Experts advise never leaving a spare ignition key hidden on the vehicle, and keeping bags and packages out of plain sight.
Military families around the world are getting a little holiday spirit from Maine after Piper Mountain Christmas Tree Farm in Newburgh shipped out three hundred trees Monday morning, as part of the National Trees for Troops campaign. Veterans were there to help load the truck that's headed to a military base in South Carolina and the trees will be distributed from there.
Holiday shoppers are invited to a Christmas Fair, this Saturday, at the First Congregational Church in Ellsworth. From 8 to 2, folks will find everything from books and puzzles, to crafts and jewelry, as well as refreshments in the coffee shop.
