Bangor, Maine News Update: December 13, 2018
One man is recovering from gunshot wounds after a fight with another man at Bear's One Stop in Newport. Police say the shooter was knocked down and, when he got to his feet, fired three shots at the other man, hitting him twice. The suspect is in custody but, so far, no charges have been filed.
Current and former employees of a Washington County school department are being notified of a data breach in the central office. The superintendent of AOS 77 says no information about the students was involved, but staff members' birth dates, addresses, and social security numbers may have been accessed.
The Maine CDC is reminding residents that this time of year people are more susceptible to whooping cough, so they should take precautions. Wash hands frequently, especially before touching your face, and cough into your arm, rather than your hand to avoid spreading germs to others. Last year, more than 120 Mainers were hospitalized with whooping cough.
Several people in the Midcoast area have reported seeing a fireball in the skies over Maine Wednesday morning and some say they heard a loud bang and even felt the ground shake. A teacher from Woolwich recorded what appears to be a meteor streaking across the sky on her home surveillance camera. The Geminid Meteor Shower is currently visible in the night sky.
A Bangor car dealership is helping keep residents of the Hope House warm this winter by inviting folks to help them fill the Forester. Quirk Subaru is collecting donations of hats, mittens, gloves, socks, boots, and jackets, and piling them all in a vehicle on the lot. Donations will be accepted until January 2nd.
