Very soon, the city of Bangor could be putting out two new memorial benches. After getting approval from Bangor's Government Operations Committee, the full city council will soon vote on whether to approve the benches.

The first was requested by the Fairmount School Parent Teacher Organization, and would be placed in Cascade Park on State Street in Bangor, to honor Marissa Kennedy. You likely remember Marissa was the 10 year-old girl from Bangor who was murdered by her parents, and her tragic story touched the hearts of the entire city. And this would indeed be a fitting tribute.

The other bench is to be placed on the Bangor waterfront in memory of Eugene Brennan. According to WABI TV-5, Brennan was a WWII veteran, who loved to sit down on the waterfront and pass the time chatting with friends, and enjoying his favorite snack... McDonald's Filet O Fish sandwiches. Brennan could be found down at the waterfront nearly every day.

Again, these monuments have already passed the first hurdle, and just needs to go before the full city council for final approval. And they have the backing of the Parks and Rec. Department, so let's keep our fingers crossed that these folks will always have a way to be remembered.
